How it all came about
Two animal lovers get married ( Leslie & Charlie ) and started fostering dogs and cats for a rescue group called Companion Animal Placement ( www.cap.petfinders.com ) as well as baby-sitting friends and associates pets while away on vacation in their home (besides having their own furry children). After being foster parents for over 10 years and far too many dogs and cats to count, they realized that they really enjoyed working with four legged beings instead of the 2 legged kind even though there is a lot of poop involved. So they said goodbye to the corporate world, to crowed trains and the naked cowboy of times square to purchase Roycefield Kennels in 1997 where they live and play with doggies and kitties all day, jealous huh :)
We are both New Jersey Certified Animal Control Officers as well as member of the Somerset County Animal Rescue Team CART, which helps rescue and care for pets during disasters. We have Red Cross certification in pet CPR and First Aid and have also completed the Humane Society of United States Disaster Training Program as well as numerous FEMA courses on pet care and disaster preparedness for pets and people and are still involved with Companion Animal Placement as well. Charlie has also worked as a trainer for over 13 years for Garden State Canine and Equine in Sussex County NJ. ( 973-875-7593) which specializes in all aspects of house training and behavioral issues for dogs as well as equine training.
Confessions from a kennel owner
Some people don't like to leave their pets at a kennel, and we used to be some of those people. We would ask friends and relatives ( and beg our parents a lot ) to watch our furry kids when away.
We've seen firsthand how some kennels are inadequately run, dirty, where they don't even remember your pets name, can't tell you if they are eating well or eliminating properly.Roycefield kennels is way different from other kennels you might encounter. We're like that great little Italian restaurant where they know your name, your favorite dish and where the owners are always in the mist of everything. We pride ourselves on knowing every little thing about your pet while he/she is in our care, keeping our kennel clean & having a caring well trained staff. Finding the right kennel is like finding the right daycare center for your (human ) child. You have to take tours, actually see where your pet will be staying, notice the cleanliness and odor ( hopefully lack of odor) and then you will know when you see the right one. Come see the difference. Take a tour ANYTIME we're open, never an appointment needed for a tour.
